signals…瞬息

Exhibition Design, Hong Kong, 2023

“signals…瞬息” was a series of three exhibitions hosted at Para Site, a contemporary art centre in Hong Kong. The project’s spatial design consisted of a sequence of themed arrangement plans, in addition to a reusable display system that iteratively transformed over a six-month period.

Aiming to reduce the waste produced by constructing three seperate shows, the realised design minimised detrimental fabriction processes, such as cutting, drilling, and painting, which often limit the potential to reuse materials at a later date. The constructed wall panels were composed primarily of softwood products, with stability and durability ensured through footings formed of steel bolts and concrete blocks produced using recycled aggregates. These different elements combined to form a bespoke aesthetic which morphed to frame, separate, and juxtapose different artworks at Para Site’s venue on the 22nd floor of a 1970s industrial building.

Looking to contribute to discussions around the environmental impacts of exhibition making today, the project was conceived in collaboration with curators Billy Tang and Celia Ho. The display system was successfully reused for the six-month exhibition series, with the art centre intending to redeploy it at future events.
